Fresh Donation Bike for Rodney
I met Rodney on Marta when I returned from Interbike back in September. I told him I would find him a Fresh Bike on that early morning train ride - it was 5:30 in the morning after a red eye flight back from Vegas. Fresh got Rodney set up with a Mongoose Switchback, a Giro helmet, a lock, lube, and a copy of the WRENCHED DVD.

2009/2010 Night Ride Season Guide
Hey Guys,
I will be guiding night rides again this year for RAMBO-SORBA and the City of Roswell at the Big Creek Trail System. Reference below for times and sign up info. Rates will vary based on if you are a Roswell resident or not and on how many rides that you plan on attending. The good news is that by taking part in these rides we are having fun and reinvesting in our trail. All money raised goes directly towards improving and expanding our riding options at Big Creek.
Look forward to seeing everybody at the trail.
Cheers,
DubFresh
Welcome Back for Season #4 for Winter 2009-10 “Night Riding in Roswell”
When the Daylight Saving Time changes on Sunday November 1st, 2009, will you lose your weekday ride due to early darkness? Have no fear RAMBO is here! (along with City Of Roswell Parks and Recreation Dept!). Standard park policy is that Big Creek Park closes at dark and there is no Night riding, at all….Unless you register for the City’s “Night Riding Program”. The program is run by RAMBO and the club arrives early (all rides are “RTR” or “ready to ride” at 7pm sharp), get all people signed-in, and confirm registration, provide ride leaders and sweepers, Bike Patrol, and provide general support of the program on-site. This winter the 20 scheduled rides are as follows:
Time changes on Sunday, November 1st 2009
NR#1 Thursday, November 5th (*)
NR#2 Wednesday, November 11th (*)
NR#3 Thursday, November 19th
NR#4 Wednesday, November 25th
NR#5 Thursday, December 3rd
NR#6 Wednesday, December 9th
NR#7 Thursday, December 17th
NR#8 Wednesday, December 23rd
NR#10 Wednesday, December 30th (note day sequence change due to New years eve)
NR#11 Thursday, January 7st
NR#12 Wednesday, January 13th
NR#13 Thursday, January 21th
NR#14 Wednesday, January 27th
NR#15 Thursday, February 4th
NR#16 Wednesday, February 10th
NR#17 Thursday, February 18th
NR#18 Wednesday, February 24th
NR#19 Thursday, March 4th
NR#20 Wednesday, March 10th
Time changes back on Sunday March 14th 2010
(*) Extra instructors and ride leaders provided for 1st time or “newbie” night riders. Please arrive 1/2Hr early for gear check and quick info session and assigning of guides.
There are (4) Options offered for the registration in this City if Roswell Program. City of Roswell residents (address will verified in on-line registration process) fee is the 1st price listed and second fee is non-residents.
Option #1 ($30/$45): All rides
The “entire season” package, our most popular option; this is for every single ride, for entire winter series, we encourage this option as this is a Fund Raiser for the all volunteer bike club. For rained out rides we will typically reschedule the ride and post on RAMBO website and SORBA forums
Option #2 ($20/$30): 10 rides
This is for “10 pack”, you can attend any 10 rides of the 20 listed ride dates, do them all in row, all at beginning of winter or maybe just attend rides when temperatures are below freezing!
Option #3 ($10/$15): 4 rides
This is for “4 pack”, you can attend any 4 rides of the 20 listed ride dates, do 1 ride per month, all in row or maybe just attend some rides when temperatures are above 50 degrees!
Option #4 ($4/$6): 1 ride
This is for a single ride, 1 night only out of the 20 listed ride dates. Not the most cost efficient option but non-the less it was used last winter. The more the merrier so come on out. If you are using this option to just “try out this night riding stuff”, please let the instructors/ride leaders know and we can assist/guide you, especially if your 1st time riding at Night.
PLEASE NOTE: you can NOT arrive at trail and pay for the program, it must be done on-line or in person at City Hall. You CAN register up to within 1 hour of the start of the ride. This will allow city to notify the Ride Instructors of the additional name(s) being registered, in time. If you are not registered, you cannot ride at Night. We highly recommend you bring your on-line confirmation printout to the 1st ride you attend (just makes life easier for us). THANKS!
REQUIRED EQUIPMENT: (in addition to Helmet) is Light for front direction and “red blinky” light for your backside. Highly suggested equipment is: Extra battery for your lighting system, extra layers of clothes for those real cold nights.

Je-Vontae Gets His New Ride - Really Pumped Fresh is Making a Difference in the Community
Dear Mr. Brenner,
I want to Thank you for your generous donation of bikes to the Big Brothers, Big Sisters Association. I really appreciated it.
When my mom informed me that I was identified as one of the Littles to possibly receive a donated bike I was extremely excited. My Big Mr. Patton called and informed me that I was one of the selected Littles and brought the bike to my house. I was so happy. I love my new bike. It's so cool. I will think of you every time I ride it.
I can not express in words what this means to me. Thanks so much for your kindness. I have enclosed some pictures of me and my bike.
Thanks Again,
Je-Vontae Ragsdale.

Big Brothers Big Sisters
Shawn,
I'm a volunteer Big Brother to a 13-year old boy named Jevontae. When the Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Atlanta office called to tell me someone had donated a bike that may fit him, I was very pleased. I went to their office the next day to see the bike, and knew immediately that it would work for Jevontae. For the past two years he's been riding a bike that was designed for a small child, so he was ready for a larger bike.
I plan to give him hands-on lessons in how to clean, lube and adjust his new bike, as well as repair flats. I'm an avid cyclist, and we look forward to riding together this summer.
Jevontae will soon be sending you, along with his own thank you, a picture of himself aboard his new bike so you can post it on your website.
Many, many thanks for your generosity!
BTW, I read that you once worked at Roswell Bikes. I used to hang out in Todd's shop way too much. I've known him since he first bought the shop many years ago. If you see him tell him I said hello.

2009 Georgia State Single Speed Championships at Hawks Creek Farm - Athens, GA
Talk about a fun weekend outside of Athens. Two days of racing and enjoying the sport we love most. Fresh took it back to the old school this weekend, Greg Lemond 'Giro' helmets we well represented and taking the Freshness to a whole new level. The Purest, the Single Speeders' - laid it out there at the Georgia State Single Speed Championships at Hawks Creek Farm. Three different events were held - a short track race, a night-time time trail, and then Sunday was the grand finale with the Georgia State Single Speed Belt on the line. Riders, supporters, and volunteers enjoyed some great racing, camaraderie, and beer toasting with friends. We battled rain and some serious flies but we lived to share these Fresh Ryding experiences. Check out the pics and let Fresh know what you think.
Cheers,
Dubbie Fresh

Dirty Spokes - Fort Yargo 6 and 12hr Race
We had a great showing at the 2nd Dirty Spokes Race of the year. More than 300 racers came out to Fort Yargo to race on Saturday. The course saw a lot of rain on Friday evening/Saturday morning. At the start we had good weather, unfortunately it didn't hold up. The rain made for some interesting conditions to say the least. Fort Yargo has a lot of rooty sections that are filled with quick/intense - drop then climb whoops. These low areas were just holding water as the rains picked up throughout the afternoon - riders were blasting through hub deep puddles in these whoop sections. Climbing was no easier matter either as the riders rear wheels failed to hook up - sliding all over the place when climbing certain sections. It was slow wet racing but everybody was smiling and having fun on their bikes.
The adverse conditions made for a good day of wrenching as brake pads, cables, and drive trains were in constant need of attention. At one point I think me and Dan replaced like 5 or 6 brake pad sets in 30 minutes. Fresh Bike Service was pumped to help out again at another great Dirty Spokes event. Thanks for all the fans, racers, and volunteers.
We want wish Tim the best, and will keep him and his family in our thoughts and prayers.

DIRTY SPOKES 6HR RACE AT HERITAGE PARK - ATHENS, GA MARCH 2009
DIRTY SPOKES 6HR RACE AT HERITAGE PARK - ATHENS, GA MARCH 2009 |
It was a great weekend of racing. I really enjoyed the scene - seeing friends and helping out all the racers. Fresh Bike Service served as neutral support for the race. Thanks and compliments to Tim from Dirty Spokes Productions for another awesome race.
It is great to be a part of such a quality grassroots race series.
The weather report all week was calling for cold and rainy weather. We weren't let down - it felt like 36 degrees for most of the day, plus add in the rain. I think I was wearing 5 to 6 layers by the end of the race. According to most of the riders, 'the course was running pretty tacky and hooking up better than expected but the abundance of roots was causing some good wipe outs as riders tried to push it through the adverse conditions'. Regardless of the weather there was a great showing of racers and venders - I think we all are anticipating the upcoming race season. Tim estimated the total race entries to be around 250. I think the average lap times were ranging from 1hr to an 1hr 10min; the top riders were putting in upper 40 min to +50 min lap times.
Things of note on the race:
My buddy Matt Slafkosky getting clothes lined by a briar patch. Apparently the guy behind him got it worse. Note the Pictures
A broken Gary Fischer frame
Team Mean Bean (Matt and Kelly) take second place to the Terrapin Wake in Bake Team (Jeremy and ??) Mean Bean won the series last year, looks like we are in store for another good battle
Had a great time hanging out and working with everybody. Looking forward to the next race.
Cheers,
Dub Fresh
